LONDON VOX POP
NO Going through security is always time-consuming, especially when people in the queues have had to fumble to decant their hand luggage into a clear plastic bag. However, queues do give airport staff time to "weigh up" one's fellow passengers.

YES The The Earrings whole security process is a charade. On recent flights, my fouryear-old has had to have his shoes X-rayed but my baby's nappy goes unchecked. It's more likely the risk will come from someone on the other side of the security check anyway.
Roz.
YES I've no objections to hand baggage limits but it is unfair to count a small women's handbag as an extra bag. Airports differ on this: City demands women squash their handbags into their hand luggage; Heathrow seems more variable it's easy to check a handbag.
Daphne Miller.
NO I think airport security is designed as a deterrent rather than a foolproof screening procedure. I liked the one-bag rule there is only so much storage space per passenger on board and it is a real pain when people try to take up twice their allocation.

NO
Israeli airline El Al insists passengers check in three hours before take-off, travellers must be interviewed and armed marshals sit in the flight cabin.
I've never felt safer. It's not relaxing security but more effective security at UK airports that's needed.
Lee.
YES Relax security hysteria we're more likely to die in a plane accident than in one hijacked by terrorists.
