BIRTHDAY GIRL: Edna Swift celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends who gathered for a tea party held in her honour.

The centenarian, who worked for many years at Denton Potteries, in Normacot, enjoyed tea and sandwiches, all served on local china, at Ash Hall Care Home, in Ash Bank.

Close friend Pam Gallimore, aged 67, from Weston Coyney, said: "Edna is a very good friend of mine - we met when she came to Longton Salvation Army for a women's meeting.

"I used to go and visit her in the afternoon and
embroidered patches we'd do crosswords together. "She's very alert and lucid and can still remember poetry she learnt years ago."
